The main
activities are of a boating and fishing nature, but Metung is also
known for it's scenic walks. You may also choose to visit one of
the areas many galleries, the food trails, wineries or hire a boat
and explore the Ninety Mile Beach, Chinaman's Creek, Boxes Creek or
Nungurner. Embark on a cruise aboard one of the boats that leave
Metung and travel to Lakes Entrance where you can see the entrance
to the Lakes system or hire a
day-boat and travel to Barrier Landing where you can walk across to Ninety Mile Beach.
It is not uncommon to observe a pod of dolphins feeding in the Bay
or nearby channels. Fish from a boat or from one of the many
available jetties on Bancroft Bay. Soak up some sun on the shores
of Lake King where there is a safe swimming beach for adults and
children.
The Village
Green is the venue for the famous Metung Farmers Market held on the
second Saturday of each month where local in-season
produce is showcased for all to buy.
Explore the Village and its shops and restaurants or just enjoy a
drink at the famous waterfront Metung Hotel. Watch the Pelican
feeding daily at noon in front of the Hotel.
Whether it is a fantastic sunrise over Bancroft Bay or you are
enjoying a glass of wine as the sun sets spectacularly over Lake
King you are always able to enjoy both ends of the day and
everything in between.
Visitors are able to choose from a wide selection of accommodation
in Metung which has motel, bed and breakfast, cabin, self contained
apartments, townhouses and houses both in the Village and
surrounding areas.
You may also hire yachts and cruisers for overnight stays where you
can tie up in some of the quiet creeks or jetties that abound in
the protected waters of the Lakes system.
There are always new places to find, visit and experience in the
Gippsland Lakes so come along and be a part of this wonderful
region which is also only 2 hours from the Victorian ski slopes
& high country.
